When are the Lancashire 11+ tests taken and what tests do children take?

The tests are usually taken early in your child's last year in primary school. This will be for entry to a grammar school in September of the following school year.

Lancashire Local Authority manage the 11plus and inform parents about the dates and content. Never the less, it is very important that you are aware of these details and do not miss important dates.

The Test Papers
The 11+ in Lancashire is based on the school work your child has completed in primary school. The exam consists of a Mathematics paper, an English paper and a Verbal Reasoning paper, all of which are age-weighted. The English and Mathematics tests are of a similar standard to the work that your child will have undertaken throughout their primary school career.
There are 3 separate test papers. Verbal Reasoning tests your child’s vocabulary, comprehension and their skills in verbal reasoning. The maths questions should not go beyond what children are expected to have been taught by the end of
Year 5.

Parents of children wishing for their child to sit the 11+ for Lancashire Grammar Schools must complete an entrance form available from each school website. While all the schools use the same test format the admission criteria for each school is different. Details are on the school websites and you should check these details before applying for a school or the elevenplus exam.
