Gloucestershire Schools Information On The 11plus Tests

Choosing a school for your child is an important decision and the 11 plus exam (11+) will play a part in your choice of school. In order to be eligible for entry to Grammar schools (selective schools) in the Gloucestershire Council area children need to have a selective recommendation from their primary head teacher before parents receive the eleven plus exam results.

Gloucestershire council provide an excellent booklet of advice for the parents of children who are about to sit their elevenplusexam. The booklet contains a wealth of information about selective and non-selective schools in their council area.

For entry to secondary school or grammar school in September of the following school year children will usually sit their 11 plus exam in the autumn term of their last primary school year- often in November. .

Children may  take the following eleven plus tests:

  1. Verbal reasoning test 1
  2. Verbal reasoning test 2

The majority of pupils in Poole transfer to secondary school at the age of 12+, this includes both grammar schools. Pupils wishing to gain entry to either of the grammar schools are required to sit an entrance test. As both the schools have Foundation status, and are therefore admission authorities in their own right, the tests are arranged and administered by the schools themselves. The local authority does not involve itself in any part of the testing process. Parents should contact the schools directly regarding any entry testing information.
